National disaster?
The Phils looked absolutely average in their Opening Day win at Citizens Bank Park on Monday over the Expos-turned-Nationals, and somehow managed to do exactly the same in their two losses on Wednesday and Thursday. The starting pitchers -- Jon Lieber, Brett Myers, and Randy Wolf -- looked above average, while the bullpen looks early on like ti could use some work. Pat Burrell appears to have fully recovered from his wrist injury -- batting .500 with a home run and 6 RBIs through the first three games. Bobby Abreu looks like Bobby Abreu -- a stud offensively, but lazy as hell in the field. Phillies management looks as inept as ever by completely bungling the Chase Utley-Placido Polanco situation. With 159 games left to play, nothing is clear at this point. I suppose we just need to put our faith in Charlie "The Anti-Bowa" Manuel and hope that he can somehow find a way to turn around the fortunes a franchise that has set the record for professional futility.
